The Gamelan extracurricular activity introduces students to the traditional Indonesian ensemble music made up of percussive instruments such as metallophones, gongs, drums, and bamboo flutes. Rooted deeply in Indonesian culture, especially from Java and Bali, Gamelan teaches students the beauty of harmony, rhythm, and teamwork through music.
By participating in Gamelan practice, students develop their musical skills, concentration, coordination, and appreciation for cultural heritage. They learn how to play various instruments, understand traditional compositions, and perform together as a group.
This activity also helps build discipline, patience, and collaboration, as Gamelan music relies heavily on timing and group synchronization. Students may also have opportunities to perform at school events or cultural festivals, showcasing their talents and preserving Indonesia’s rich musical traditions.
The Gamelan club is open to all students, regardless of musical background, and provides a unique and enjoyable way to explore traditional arts in a friendly and respectful environment.
